Post doc position in Evidence and Neuroscience

The Department of Philosophy and History of Ideas invites applicants for a three year post doc position in evidence and neuroscience. The aim of the project is to map forms of knowledge in relation to the new brain sciences and to understand how they are translated across and outside of the scientific realm. This will allow to place current developments in the neuro – and cognitive sciences in a broader context of medical philosophy, sociology and/or anthropology. In the assessment of applicants for the position, emphasis is placed on research qualifications in anthropology, sociology and/or philosophy concerning implications of and evidence in the new neurosciences. The position is funded by the MINDLab initiative at University of Aarhus. It is expected that the person appointed will engage actively in the research environment at the Department (including the research centre Health, Humanity and Culture) and at MindLab.

Department of Philosophy and History of Ideas is one of seven departments at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Aarhus. It offers BA and MA programmes in philosophy and in the history of ideas. In addition, the department is among the largest suppliers in the humanities of supplementary courses, Master’s courses and of Continuing Education. The total number of students at the department is 750. The productive research and teaching environment at the department consists of thirty tenured researchers, a dozen Postdoc/assistant professors and project employed researchers, twenty research students and a secretary staff of seven. MINDLab is a multi-disciplinary research initiative under the Danish UNIK program, see details at www.mindlab.au.dk.
Applicants without any knowledge of Danish would be expected, if appointed, to acquire within two years a sufficient level of proficiency in the language to be able to participate in all the activities of the Institute.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Unions.
