Phenomenology and Mathematics
UNIVERSITY OF TAMPERE
MAY 21. -23. 2007
The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Philosophy at the University of Tampere, The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Helsinki, and the Philosophical Society of Finland are organizing a three day seminar entitled “Phenomenology and Mathematics” to be held in Tampere, Finland, 21-23 May, 2007. The conference brings together a unique combination of experts in phenomenology, history and philosophy of mathematics, and philosophically oriented mathematicians creating an occasion for a fruitful exchange of ideas. Initially such co-operation was the reason for Felix Klein (1849-1925) and David Hilbert (1862-1943) to invite Edmund Husserl (1859-1938, originally also a mathematician) to Göttingen to work on philosophical foundations for mathematics. The purpose of the conference is, in spirit of Klein, Hilbert, and Husserl, to assess the current state of research related to phenomenology and mathematics, and to find new forms of co-operation between the scholars in the field.
