The Helsinki Colloquium on Social Ontology brings together experts in the philosophy of social science to discuss issues such as the following: What is the mode of existence of social facts? What role do group agents, such as states and corporations, play in the construction of social reality? How do social institutions, such as money and law, depend on implicit or explicit collective acceptance? What is the ultimate relation between individual and collective agency? Does group membership compromise individual agency? Where do collective emotions come in?
