THE FUTURE OF THE HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
All over the world education is seen as an essential means to maintain cohesion and dynamics in a society. But why education is seen so important? The purpose of this meeting is to discuss in which way the history and philosophy of education could take part in the search of different meanings of education. The programme consists of paper sessions and plenary lectures.
Paper sessions will be organized on the basis of abstracts. Each paper is given 30 minutes (presentation 15-20 minutes, general discussion 15-10 minutes). Abstracts of 1250 characters (with spaces) or less should be sent to the organizing committee via Registration e-Form before April 30th, 2016. Notifications of acceptance will be communicated latest in May 15th 2016.

The meeting is hosted by The School of Educational Sciences (Tallinn University). It is also the 12th Annual Meeting of The Finnish Network of the History and Philosophy of Education, which is a Sig-group in FERA (see http://kasvatus.net/). The meeting language is English. However, in the paper sessions Estonian and Finnish can also be used. There are no registration fees for this meeting. However, in order to facilitate the arrangements, all participants are asked to registrate themselves to the meeting. Here is the URL of the registration form:

Should you submit a paper?
Even though the main theme in this meeting is the future of the history and philosophy of education, papers on other topics are also welcome. Here is a list of possible topics: the development or characteristics of paricular educational idea, practice, institution, research paradigm, method, or conceptual framework; methodological investigations; theoretical analysis of interrelationship between education and society, gender, culture, economics, politics, media, religion, or historical figures and turning points. - These were just examples. Paper abstracts on any other area are also welcome. N.B. You do not need to be a historian or philosopher in order to participate. What is truly important is that your argumentation is somehow based on historical or philosophical reasoning.
